PARALYMPIAN MARTINE WRIGHT ANNOUNCED AS GUEST SPEAKER FOR THE WOMEN OF ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS 2018

Paralympian Martine Wright, MBE, who lost both of her legs during the 7th July 2005 bombing in London, has been announced as the guest speaker at this year’s Women of Achievement Awards 2018.

The popular awards ceremony is one of the most prestigious of its kind in Hull and East Yorkshire. Around 500 people are expected to attend this year’s event at the new Double Tree by Hilton. Held every two years and organised by Women in Business, they celebrate women entrepreneurs who are either running their own business or hold a leading role in their profession or industry, in a local authority, charity or indeed any other organization.

Samantha Baker, Chair of Women in Business, said:

“This year’s Women of Achievement awards promises to be an inspiring event – we strive to make it even better every year. The nominations for the awards are open and we would ask everyone, if you know a fabulous woman who deserves to be applauded for her achievements or contribution, to please put them forward, we want to hear about them. You can nominate yourself or someone else and we do the rest! They could be part of an innovative start-up or already well-established in their field. They may do incredible charity work and never think they deserve any special reward. We think theydo and to us, all of these women are extraordinary and deserve recognition”.

“We are also very excited that Martine Wright has agreed to be our guest speaker this year. Rather than dwelling on her loss, she used it as a springboard for a new life, seeking out new opportunities and redefining her goals. Later she won The Helen Rollason Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Face of Adversity at the 2012 BBC Sports Personality of the Year. She’s going to be sharing her story and her journey to becoming a Paralympian with us. She is a truly inspirational woman and is definitely not to be missed.”

The Women of Achievement Awards, compèred by ITV Calendar News reporter Fiona Dwyer, who is also Managing Director of FDPR, will take place on 16thNovember 2018, 12 noon – 5pm, at the DoubleTree by Hilton.
